| Instructions From A Citizen [ a personal statement by Daniel Young, unrelated to the NewZoid artwork.]
[The possibility that this great country is about to be led into a mistaken war against Iraq compels me to violate the artistic isolation of NewZoid and use the site to publicly state my opposition. I have sent the following message to the President of the United States and to appropriate elected government representatives.] October 28, 2002 I instruct you, as my direct or indirect representative and servant in government, to refrain from making war against Iraq. I have not been persuaded that proper cause exists for such a war. By proper cause I mean grounds for war that are consistent with traditional American values. Specifically, the evidence being offered fails to show that Iraq was involved in the attacks on us of September 11, 2001. Nor does the evidence show a clear and present danger of nuclear or biological attack on us or our allies by Iraq. If anything, the physical and financial evidence related to the attacks of September 11, 2001 point to Saudi Arabia as the proper object of punitive measures. Sincerely, Daniel Young Young's Further Thoughts on the Issue of War With Iraq 1. Iraq appears to be sufficiently under control at present, internally and externally. In practical terms, Saddam Hussein is a prisoner of the U.S., under "country arrest." 2. The nastiness of Iraq's leadership is irrelevant. 3. Personal animosity toward Saddam Hussein is irrelevant. 4. The attractiveness of Iraq's natural resources is irrelevant. 5. I do not object to bluffing an attack on Iraq in order to get it to accept the thorough weapons inspections to which its previous violations of international law have obligated it. 6. Our economic clout is capable of changing Iraq over time without war. |
